Challenge Softie Complete

So I have completed my challenge softie.  As you may recall I didn't want to let you know what I was attempting as I thought I was taking on a bit too much and after careful consideration, a number of swear words and a huge amount of time I have come to the conclusion that I was right.  However the thing is complete.

Do I like it?  No.
Will it grow on me?  I hope so
Will I attempt it again?  Not for a very very very long time

So what was I attmepting I hear you shouting. This little patchwork Scottie Dog from Denyse Schmidt.

And my finished item....
Front

Back

I think the reason I don't like him is because I have just finished him and he was a nightmare!  All those corners!!  I dreamt about them last night.

So the first of my challenges in the 12 in 12 is complete and I feel a huge amount of relief he is done, but also quite proud.  I am now going to find a very very simple softie to prove that I can make them and see if I can find time to whip it up.

Balls

Just whipped up some soft balls to be donated to the local church for their babys box.  They are both meant to be the same but for some reason the fluffy one came out more like and AFL ball so that is what it has become.

Sorry for the bad picture but the light is appalling in here at night.

Hope you all have a great Sunday

I Baked

and not very well.

I decided to make these cupcakes from The Pioneer Woman but and this is were things got lost in translation.  Baking Soda in an American recipe is Bicarbonate of Soda anywhere else in the world (they do like to do things differently there don't they).  I wasn't concetrating, concerned about Jot who seemed not to want to sleep, and used Baking Powder instead Whoops!!

And so here is the result.

Still edible but not quite the divineness I know these can be having made them successfully in the past!  Lesson learned.  I might translate this one for my recipe book so I don't get it wrong again.

Hope you are having a good weekend.

Self Control

When I got back from dropping Jot off at childcare this morning I found this waiting on my doorstep.

Knowing it was from the Fat Quarter Shop and contained some lovely material I really really really wanted to open it and indulged my senses but before doing so I made myself turn this pile

into this ...

and this

before I opened it to discover

and

What can I say!!

The top fabric is some Moda Solid in Snow and a Verna Charm Pack and some Verna yardage.  The bottom picture is a Make Life Jelly Roll - I love how the FQS unroll them to make the postage cheaper for us Aussies.

So now I can

  •  finish my challenge softie (still slightly scared of it so might leave it till next week)
  • start the Skinny Vera that I am gifting to a friend at her wedding in 3 weeks time

but first I think I will go and admire it all a little more.

Finished

Another item on my to do list was completed on Sunday night.  A Baby Tag blanket for a little boy called Perry who is (as far as I know) the first of the second babies to my Mothers Group.

I am a bit concerned it isn't male enough but I hope that his father will forgive me.

I love it as I adore the fabric.  I made it with the same fabric I am using for Jots quilt so maybe I am a little bit biased.

Hope you like it Perry, Welcome to the world.

Passport Cover - Done

I know it wasn't the first thing on my list but as I realised it is my Sister in laws birthday tomorrow (and she is in England) I should get on with her gift.  I was going to make her an Amy Butler Chelsea Bag but I don't have the right interfacing.  Instead I though I would whip her up a quick passport cover from Chubby Hobby.  This will go into the mail on Monday with a "whoops I forgot again!" card.

It officially holds two passports and various drivers licenses or credit cards but I got four passports in it.

The one on my list is for me for our trip to NZ at Easter but now I know how easy and quick they are I can whip myself one up in no time.

Have a good weekend

March Projects

I sat down last night and conisdered everything going on in the next few months and came to the realisation that if I don't list all my projects I am not going to get them done!!  So here they are.

Bunting x 2
Challenge Softie
Baby Tag blankets x 2
Skinny Verna
Amy Butler Chelsea Bag
Toddler Backpack
Drawing Wallet
Passport Covers
Jots Quilt
O&S Dress for Jot

The first five really need to be complete this month as they are for events happening in March or early April.  In fact both of the buntings are already 2 months late!

So I should get off here and start sewing.

Mrach Challenge

As I mentioned before I signed up for the 12 challenges in 12 months (see the button ==> for more details) on Carolyns blog.  I missed out on January and February but I am on board for March, I have the fabric, I have the pattern and all I need now is my  machine out of storage - working on that this weekend.

Car asked what I am making (this months subject is a softie) and I was going to add the link here but I have decided to keep it to myself for now.  It is an ambitious project for me so I reserve the right to do something else if it doesn't work.

Stay tuned for some sneak peaks over the month and then the reveal at the end of the month.

Hope those of you who have a long weekend enjoy it.

Home

I really did mean to post while in England but life got away from me in a great way and now I am home.  I can't believe how fast the time went.  We had so much fun and being around my elder sister C and her two boys taught me a lot that I didn't realise I needed to know.

Anyway rather than bore you with all the details I will just touch on a few highlights of the trip in pictures.

Meeting this little guy

Seeing this little guy again

Watching the cousins together

The surprise arrival of R for the wedding

The happy couple

And to top it off

I got to build a snowman

I had a wonderful time and miss them all horribly now I am home.

Take care
